Department of Law

The Bachelor’s Degree in Law aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and ethical foundation necessary to meet the evolving demands of the legal profession at both national and international levels. Through continuously updated curricula, the program ensures alignment with changing career opportunities, academic advancements, and professional certification requirements. Students are introduced to the principles of academic lawyering and legal education, developing critical legal research and analytical skills essential for interpreting legislation, case law, and legal processes. Emphasis is placed on understanding the dynamic nature of law beyond mere rule memorization, fostering the ability to address complex legal issues, apply legal knowledge practically, and engage with the legal system in a socially responsible manner. Master in Landscape Architecture

Ioannis Michaloudis, PhD

As Founding Dean of the Faculty, my aim is to foster an environment where interdisciplinary education and innovation can truly flourish. Our Faculty now embraces not only Design and Landscape Architecture but also the Department of Law, extending our mission into the ethical and juridical dimensions of knowledge. It is about preparing our students to think beyond the traditional boundaries of their disciplines—equipping them for the challenges and opportunities of a space-age future.

Designers, architects and lawyers approach problems from different angles, but together they form a constellation of perspectives that can unlock extraordinary potentials. For example, creativity and discovery must be balanced with ethical frameworks and legal responsibility—ensuring that innovation benefits humanity as a whole. This convergence of thought is reflected in my own research, recently featured by NASA in the article “Comet-Catching NASA Technology Enables Exotic Works of Art”.

At the American University of Cyprus, my role is to educate by balancing aesthetics with functionality, beauty with truth, and innovation with justice. These “spaces in-between”—as the mathematician Henri Poincaré once described—are immeasurable; they can only be felt.

This is my advice to all students of Design, young Landscape Architects, and future Lawyers alike: learn to feel.
