Dr. Dario Pontiggia is Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at the American University of Cyprus. He is a graduate of the University of Glasgow, of the University of Edinburgh, and of the University of Milano-Bicocca. His postgraduate studies have been funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research and by the Faculty of Law, Business and Social Sciences of the University of Glasgow.
Dario has acquired more than twenty years of teaching experience, at both postgraduate and undergraduate level, in multiple institutions in three countries (United Kingdom, Italy and Cyprus). As an instructor, he applies methods of teaching that are interactive and encourage students to trust their opinion, while supporting it with evidence. He strongly believes that students are most motivated to learn when they can see the connection between what they are being taught and their own lives.
Dario’s research has focused on the consequences of heterogeneous economic agents for the business cycle, with a focus on optimal monetary policy, and the credit cycle, with a focus on the housing market. His research has been published in journals such as the Journal of Macroeconomics, the Journal of Economic Studies and the Journal of Property Investment and Finance. More generally, he is interested in economic behaviour and the incentives and disincentives that shape it. He truly believes in the motto of his alma mater: “Via, Veritas, Vita” and he is planning/dreaming to write an Economics book for children.
